Our Mission

The Lehigh Valley Folk Music Society (LVFMS), based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is a registered non-profit organization formed by local folk musicians in 1994 and dedicated to fostering the promotion and preservation of folk music through participation, performance and educational events.

Folk Jams and Sing-Alongs

The Society sponsors monthly jams for musicians and singers of all experience levels giving them an opportunity to play and sing their favorite folk songs with others. This "free" event is open to the public and always held the third Wednesday of every month from 6:30 to 10:00 pm at the Lehigh Valley Active Life Center located at 1633 W. Elm Street in Allentown. All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us to sing, play or listen. Jam books with chords and lyrics are provided. See the JAMS link for more detail.

Performing Group Concerts

The LVFMS sponsors a group of 4 or more performing artists who raise funds for the Society. The group exhibits an eclectic blend of folk music for all sorts of events in the Lehigh Valley year round. CONTACT us to book the band for your special event. We still have open dates for 2014. Special upcoming concerts open to the public in 2014 include:

  • Emmaus Heritage: Saturday, Aug 23

Coming soon...

The Ukelele, proudly pronounced “ook-a-lay-lee”, an instrument native to Hawaii, has become increasingly popular in recent years all over the world, especially among the young. The Society is forming a Ukelele Jam Club for ukelele players of all ages and will be hosting a monthly meeting and jam sing-along to kick it off. Time and place to be announced soon.

LVFMS Recordings

The Society has recorded three entertaining CD compilations of traditional folk, gospel and original folk music which are available for sale to the public. The proceeds provide funds for the Society.
